“Masterpiece among the scions created by the gods, and the mastermind of the plot to rise against them. Prior to her betrayal, she was tasked with guiding souls to heaven and aiding in their reincarnation. Called the High Seraph for her angelic wings of glimmering gold, yet it was on wings of deepest black that the tainted angel Ultima rose against the gods. Since her fall, her heart is without light, and impossible to know.”

「神が創りあげた異形者の最高傑作にして、神への反逆を企てた首謀者。反旗を翻すまで、天へ魂を運び転生の手助けをする役割を担っていた。黄金に輝く神聖な翼を持つ姿は聖天使と称えられた。しかし黒き翼を持つ堕天使アルテマと接触したことが後の反逆に繋がる。堕ちてから以後、表情を失った彼女の心の内は伺い知れない。」

英単語・英語表現の解説

・seprah：熾天使（してんし）

天使にも階級がありその最上位です。複数形は seraphim です。

天使の階級は celestial hierarchy といいます。

・eschaton: 終末、世界の終焉　　

キリスト教やイスラム教には「終末論 eschatology」といって、（彼らにとって）堕落したこの世界の破滅（アルマゲドン）を通して God（アラビア語だと Allah）の理想の世界が訪れる、という思想があります。

詳しくはヨハネの黙示録（John’s Book of Revelation / Apocalypse）に「終末」が表現されています。

アメリカの映画やドラマには「世界崩壊の話（doomsday scenario）」をベースにしたものがたくさんありますが、それもこういった世界観がキリスト教圏では共有できるからでしょう。

・scion：異形者

名詞 scion：名族の子孫

・rise – rose – risen

自動詞 riseは不規則変化動詞です。

・reincarnation: 転生　　

仏教やヒンドゥー教の思想である輪廻転生は reincarnation と訳されます。

キリスト教では生まれ変わりはなく God による「最後の審判 Final Judgment」をうけて選ばれたものだけが復活します。

もちろんその時「クリスチャン以外は全員地獄行き」になります。

英文理解・文法構造の解説

【英文 ① 】

この文は the masterpiece と the mastermind がつながった「名詞句」です。（Ultima the High Seraph is…）につながる形として考えるとよいと思います。

【英文 ② 】

Prior to her betrayal, she was tasked with guiding souls to heaven and aiding in their reincarnation.

前置詞 with が動名詞 guiding と aiding の両方をつないでいます。

過去分詞 called の分詞構文。
